IT may only be her third major modelling competition but Mackay’s Brooke Nash is hot on the heels of former Miss Universe winner Jennifer Hawkins.

The 19-year-old blonde beauty has beaten 300 other models to secure her place in the Queensland state finals for the Miss Universe Australia 2011 competition next week.

Miss Nash will be judged alongside 12 other models in three sections including swimwear, evening wear and the personality question and answer section.

“I’m so excited about it but have been busy trying to get everything organised as I only found out last week that I got through so I haven’t really had time to get nervous,” Miss Nash said.

The state finals will be held on the Gold Coast on June 8 where Miss Nash will walk the runway in front of a large crowd to vie for one of five places in the national finals.

Judges include Miss Universe Australia national director Deborah Miller, Kooey Swimwear director Nikki Silverthorne and Australian Ironman Ky Hurst.

Miss Nash said the state finals will be a scary but exciting experience.

“During the preliminary finals it was just the judges but the finals will be in front of a public crowd so there will be a bit more pressure.”
